Russia Plans Major Indian Helicopter Manufacturing Effort

To Assemble Up To 400 Ka-226T Helos Per Year In India

As many as 400 Russian-design Ka-226T helicopters will be built in India under an agreement signed recently between the two countries.

Reuters reports that the agreement came after summit talks between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin said the light multi-role helicopters can be used for SAR operations in mountainous regions. The aircraft are built by Russian Helicopters.

Modi called the summit in an effort to revive a relationship between the two countries that saw its peak during the Soviet era. Modi said that Russia "remains our most important defense partner" after the one-day meeting.
