Avionica Receives STC On Boeing's 767 Airliners For satLINK MAX

Avionica’s satLINK MAX Solves The FANS 1/A Mandate For 767 Operators

Avionica, a satellite communications equipment manufacturer known for its multiple safety certifications, announced today that the FAA has issued a Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) for the installation of its satLINK MAX, the industry’s first Air Traffic Control (ATC) voice and data qualified Iridium satellite-based communications product for the Boeing 767-200/-300/-300F/-400ER air transport aircraft models.

“The design, development and certification of the satLINK MAX under the strict guidelines of the FAA is a solid indicator of Avionica’s satcom excellence and its leading position in the industry,” said Raul Segredo, president of Avionica. “Receiving this STC is a testament to the dedication, stewardship and unparalleled commitment of Avionica’s reliable engineering and operations groups that worked in tandem with the FAA. We are very proud of this accomplishment.”

The FAA also granted design approval for the satLINK MAX representing the first RTCA/DO-262A compliant voice and data SATCOM system for air transport aircraft. This represents the industry’s first Future Air Navigation System (FANS) 1/A approved Iridium satellite-based voice and data communications product for air transport aircraft.

Starting in February of 2015, all aircraft flying between North America and Europe over North American Organized Tracks System (OTS), must be FANS 1/A compliant to fly in the optimal blocks of airspace and Avionica’s new satLINK MAX complies with this mandate. Typical applications of the satLINK MAX include two flight deck voice channels, one FANS-over-Iridium (FOI) datalink channel and one voice and data capable cabin service channel.

Avionica designs, manufactures and sells aircraft flight data recorders and Iridium satellite communications products along with flight data analysis services to airlines and aircraft manufacturers around the globe. Avionica has completed installations in more than 7,000 aircraft at more than 900 customers worldwide.

The company announced in August initial FAA certification of the satLINK MAX and that United Airlines was the launch customer for its Boeing 777 aircraft. United will be able to leverage the device’s four Iridium receivers to simultaneously provide multiple voice and data services with a single dual-element antenna.

Avionica’s ground support products, airborne products and flight data management services are highly regarded for their innovation, safety and affordability. With approximately 20 percent market share in the air transport sector, Avionica created a market for value oriented aerospace data equipment with the Mini Quick Access Recorder (QAR), the industry's first miniature data recording device. Avionica applies advances in technology, business practices and AS9100C manufacturing processes to create products that are twice as capable at half the weight.
