EBACE 2009: Third Annual European Safety Standdown Draws High Turnout

Approximately 100 people attended the 3rd Annual European Safety Standdown on May 11 in Geneva, Switzerland, indicating that safety continues to remain a high priority for the business aviation community regardless of the economic climate. Featured presenters included the following aviation safety experts: Tony Kern of Convergent Performance, Sean Roberts of the National Test Pilot School, Mark Rosekind of Alertness Solutions and John Nance, aerospace analyst and author. The 4th Annual European Safety Standdown will return to Geneva next year, to be held in conjunction with the 10th anniversary of EBACE.

Offered by Bombardier in partnership with the National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) and European Business Aviation Association (EBAA), the 3rd Annual European Safety Standdown is a non-commercial effort to improve business aviation safety by combining skill-based training with knowledge-based training. This seminar is offered free of charge and features subject-matter experts presenting on topics such as crew resource management, professional airmanship, advanced aerodynamics for business aviation and fatigue countermeasures. Safety Standdown is not aircraft- or manufacturer-specific, and the information presented is applicable to any aircraft flown.

Since eight out of 10 aircraft accidents are caused by human failure, not equipment failure, Safety Standdown provides critical information and training on topics directly related to human performance. Additionally, this seminar provides participants with tools to mitigate risk, improve flight department procedures and processes, and analyze their own performance and professionalism.
