Group Says Blue Angels Should Be Cut From Traverse City Airshow

Peace Group Says ‘War Machines’ Have No Place At Cherry Festival

If the Blue Angels are flying airshows again by the July 4th weekend, their schedule has them booked in Traverse City, MI for the annual Cherry Festival.

But one group says they think the Navy's precision demonstration team should be cut from the lineup.

The Detroit News reports that Tim Keenan, president of the Northern Michigan Veterans for Peace, told the Traverse City Record-Eagle that the airplanes flown by the Blue Angels are "instruments of war", and they should not be allowed to perform at the Cherry Festival.

Cherry Festival organizers respectfully disagree. Trevor Tkach, the executive director for the event, said he's received "overwhelming support" for the Blue Angels at the air show, and that they have been the most popular attraction for the event for the past 25 years. The F/A-18s flying over the city are great positive publicity for the cherry industry, he told the paper.
