Altavian NOVA Block III UAV To Fly Missions In Florida And Puerto Rico
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Jacksonville District has awarded a contract to Gainesville, FL-based Altavian to continue working in support of using unmanned aircraft in civil works projects in Florida and Puerto Rico.
Altavian is an integrated unmanned aircraft solutions company specializing in professional-grade unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) for data collection. It is the first UAS company to be awarded a federal contract in support of civilian data deliverables using unmanned aircraft technology. Altavian will provide both unmanned systems and deployment support to ensure the program succeeds in its mission to maintain our Nation's civil infrastructure.
Altavian's custom built NOVA Block III is a small unmanned aircraft that operates in both land and water environments. The NOVA Block III offers the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers a cost-effective method of obtaining high precision geospatial data for engineering and natural resource management applications. These applications include conducting levee inspections, monitoring waterways and preserving wetlands.
"We are using all of the leading technology—the latest sensors, unmanned aircraft design, and data processing techniques—to deliver a state-of-the-art product," said John Perry, CEO, Altavian. "In doing so, we've created a solution that delivers a range of services for our clients' diverse needs."
The NOVA unmanned aircraft system has already significantly impacted the Jacksonville District Corps' Invasive Species Program, Everglades Restoration Program, Construction Monitoring, and Regulatory Program, and earned them the Innovation Award 2012 at USACE Strategic Leader's Conference earlier this month.
