Momentum Builds For Planes Of Fame Air Show

Change.org Petition Crosses 15,000 Signatures

The petition posted on Change.org to build support for the Planes of Fame Air Museum Air Show has crossed the 15,000 signature mark, heading towards a goal of 25,000.

In a petition update posted on the website April 7th, Planes of Fame Executive Director Steve Hinton said the museum is moving ahead with all plans and preparations for the show, which will continue "until the court tells us otherwise."

The actual deadline for reaching 25,000 signatures was April 4. But Hinton posted on April 6th "we've been told to keep the letters and signatures coming in!" Comments and letters have come from people in our own community, all over the state of California, the midwest and east coast, and places like Australia, New Zealand, Denmark, the U.K. Germany and Japan, Hinton said.

The court date that will decide the fate of the air show is April 20th. The show is planned for May 6-7. A group of tenants at the Chino Airport where the show is held filed the suit to block the 25th annual show, saying that it is too disruptive to their businesses. According to the plaintiffs, the show "physically blocks and obstructs various airport businesses from operating by erecting fences and other barriers that keep would-be customers from accessing their businesses.”

The businesses, which includes Yanks Air Museum, Flying Tigers Aviation, SOCAL MRO, and Zangeneh Aeronautics are also seeking compensation for lost revenue dating back to 2013, according to the Chino Champion newspaper.
