Bin Laden's Son Reported Killed By Predator-Fired Missile

Officials "80 To 85% Certain" He Has Been Killed

U.S. officials say they think Saad bin Laden, the son of Osama bin Laden, has been killed by a Hellfire Missile fired from a U.S. Predator UAV sometime "this year".

National Public Radio reports that spy agencies say they are "80 to 85 percent certain" that Saad has been killed, but without a body for DNA testing, it is very difficult to confirm. NPR's source said Saad wasn't high enough in the al-Qaida organization to be an individual target, but that he happened to be "in the wrong place at the wrong time."

Saad Bin Laden spent years under house arrest in Iran before traveling to Pakistan, the report says. He was active in al-Qaida, but not a top-level player.

It is not known if Saad was anywhere near Osama bin Laden when he was killed.
