Cuban An-2 Goes For $7000

Former Wife of Cuban Spy Buys it, to Resell

Well, it didn't fetch quite the $27 million that was hoped for,  but there is still some hope that Margarita Martinez might get something good out of the AN-2 that brought Cuban refugees to Key West last Summer.

Martinez, you may recall, is the ex-wife of a Cuban spy, Juan Pablo Roque; she was awarded $27.1 million in lawsuits dealing with her misuse by that man. (Courts called it, properly, "rape.")

The plane was owned, as are all things in Cuba, by the government; and a US court thus ruled that it should be auctioned here, to defray some of the judgment Ms Martinez had been awarded (but will never collect).

Proud owner of a big bipe:

As luck would have it, Martinez put in the winning bid on the giant biplane. She got the thing for $7000.

Now, even an uncertified copy of anything that big should bring a whole lot more than that; and, of course, that was her plan. So, if you want one of the biggest, funkiest airplanes on your local flight line, and you think you can get enough of it signed off to put it in the air, give Ms Martinez a call... and bring some cash.
