US Airways Express Flight Lands At Wrong Airport

Pilot: 'Here's One For The News'

When passengers aboard a US Airways Express flight got on board in Pittsburgh (PA) last week, they thought they were going to University Park Airport outside State College (PA). When they go off the flight, however, they discovered they weren't in State College at all.

The pilot instead landed at Mid-State Airport, near Philipsburg, about 20 miles away. Mid-State business manager Joann Shields was there to greet the unexpected flight.

"When the pilot walked in, he said, 'Here's one for the news,'" Shields said. She said the pilot was unfamiliar with the area.

US Airways doesn't have much to say about the incident. The airline says only that it provided ground transportation to the eight passengers on board the flight. The aircraft's operator, Shuttle America, apparently has nothing to say at all. It refused to return calls to the Centre Daily Times in State College when the paper's reporters tried to ask about the whole thing.
