Lockheed Martin To Idle 150 Sikorsky Workers

About Two-Thirds Of Those Will Be Let Go From Connecticut

About 150 Lockheed Martin employees will laid off by the company, with some 109 being let go in the state of Connecticut.

The Hartford Courant reports that Lockheed Martin spokesman Paul Jackson said that the job action will be "difficult," but it is "necessary to ensure we remain competitive in the marketplace, secure future business opportunities and keep our infrastructure appropriately aligned with customer demands."

The Connecticut congressional delegation, consisting of Senators Richard Blumenthal and Chris Murphy and Reps. Joe Courtney, Rosa DeLauro, Elizabeth Esty, Jim Himes and John Larson ... all Democrats ... said in a joint statement that they will do everything they can to assist those who have lost their jobs, and "will continue discussions with Lockheed to ensure it fulfills the commitments and obligations Sikorsky has undertaken in Connecticut."

The company announced last month that it was planning to idle 350 employees in its mission systems and training division, which includes Sikorsky.
