Moooooove Over Part II: The Plane And The Porsche

German Aircraft Lands On Rallying Roadster

It wasn't so much a landing you could walk away from as it was a landing you could drive away from.

Authorities in Bitburg, Germany, say a single-engine aircraft landed on the roof of a Porsche Wednesday as the high-performance auto was taking part in a road rally.

"It was a miracle that no one was hurt. There was considerable damage done to the plane and the car," Bitsburg Police spokesman Klaus Schnarrbach told Reuters.

It happened at the former US airbase in Bitburg (below), where members of the local Porsche club were staging the road rally. The driver of the Porsche was speeding merrily along at about 100 mph, according to police, when the aircraft touched down on the roof. The driver of the Porsche, startled at the commotion and the sight of a prop in his windshield, slammed on the brakes. That's when the aircraft slid off the car and impacted the ground.

"The airplane managed to stay steady on the roof at first," said Schnarrbach, adding the pilot faced possible charges of negligence. "They probably couldn't have done it that well if they had tried," he said.

Nonetheless, we expect Jimmy Franklin to call the pilot of that plane just as soon as he finds the number.
