Rockwell Collins’ Flight Control Electronics Selected For 777X

Fly-By-Wire System Supports Airplane's New Wing Design

Rockwell Collins has been selected to provide the Flight Control Module (FCM) for the Boeing 777X Integrated Flight Control Electronics (IFCE) fly-by-wire (FBW) system through a competitive procurement bid led by BAE Systems, the prime supplier of the IFCE cabinet system.

The FCM technology builds upon Rockwell Collins’ leading-edge flight control electronics found on multiple FBW-equipped air transport aircraft under development. It delivers high-integrity FBW computing functionality that supports the 777X’s new wing with load alleviation, and its high lift and folding wing tips.

“The flight controls we’re providing for this innovative new aircraft will efficiently and smoothly maneuver the aircraft through the most complex procedures and challenging environments,” said Greg Irmen, vice president and general manager, Flight Controls and Information Systems for Rockwell Collins. “This supports Boeing’s goal of bringing advanced technologies to the 777X that save fuel and optimize performance.”

Rockwell Collins and BAE Systems have a strong record of executing complex development programs and are major suppliers to Boeing across its portfolio of airplanes. Production of the 777X is expected to begin in 2018 with first delivery on track for 2020.
