Car Plows Into Medical Helicopter On A New Mexico Highway

Aircraft Involved In Medevac Mission Hit By Suspected Drunk Driver

A medical helicopter was hit by a speeding Jeep being operated by a suspected drunk driver near Gallup, NM, according to local police.

Television station KOB reports that a tow truck driver who was at the scene said the the Jeep "flew past" emergency barricades towards the accident scene. He said that the vehicle crashed through a barrier surrounding the aircraft, impacting a fire truck and then the helo.

The aircraft was badly damaged, but the medical team was able to stabilize the critically-injured patient, who was transported to the hospital safely.

The driver was identified as 26-year-old Glenn Livingston of Gallup. He was arrested and charged with aggravated DWI and violation of the state's open container law.
