Regent Makes Waves with NZ Order

Ocean Flyer Purchases 25 Hydrofoil Sea-to-Air Gliders for Regional Transit

Regent has announced that Ocean Flyer has placed firm deposits for the company's all-electric seaglider.

The deal is said to be the largest private transportation deal in New Zealand's history, and increases Regent's footprint in the Southern Hemisphere, an important market to tap while trying to revive the seaplane market. Valued at more than $700 million, the sale will provide Ocean Flyer with the first commercial production models for use in harbor to harbor overwater transportation. In all, Regent has now raised more than $6.75 billion across its list of early adopters.

The foiling sea-to-air passenger craft recently reached 35 knots during its sea trials off the coast of Tampa, Florida, gaining attention as a fast, sustainable, and affordable method of travel that can outperform traditional seaboard regional travel like aircraft or ferries. Ocean Flyer has agreed to purchase 25 of the seagliders: 15 of them 12-passenger Viceroys, and 10 Monarchs seating 100 passengers. The transaction is valued at $427 million for the package.

“We are thrilled to partner with Ocean Flyer to bring safe, zero-carbon, low-cost, and fast transportation to the people of New Zealand,” said Billy Thalheimer, CEO of Regent. “The seaglider will enable New Zealand to contribute to meeting its sustainability goals, protect its natural resources, and connect its citizens across its islands with reliable and affordable options.”

“Sustainability is a gift we owe to future generations. We all know our generation must take action now to achieve carbon neutrality. Regent's visionary transport solution enables us to empower people and businesses by offering an affordable, sustainable choice,” said Ocean Flyer CEO Shah Aslam. “Ocean Flyer is leading real change by introducing one of the most impactful transport sustainability initiatives of the 21st century to New Zealand, connecting communities and helping drive higher productivity and efficiency.”
