EAA Sport Pilot Tour to Visit Boston Area

Sport Planes and Pilots Come Together September 9

EAA's Sport Pilot tour is visiting Lawrence Municipal Airport in North Andover, MA on Sep 9 -- all activities start at 9:00am. The tour stop is one of several the EAA is making across the country to promote sport aviation and sport aircraft in the US.

"Now is the time for the many people who have dreamed of learning to fly or have wanted to get back into aviation at an affordable level," said Ron Wagner, EAA manager of field relations. "Sport pilot was introduced to reduce the time and cost traditionally associated with flying and the infrastructure for your success is rapidly taking shape. The EAA Sport Pilot Tour opens the possibilities of personal flight to individuals and lets them know how to get started. There are light-sport aircraft on-site that can provide demonstration flights and open exciting ways to take to the sky."

The EAA and other aviation groups worked closely with the FAA for nearly a decade to develop the sport pilot and aircraft categories.

Attendees have a full slate of activities to choose from including:

  • Forums that explain what you need to begin realizing your own dream of flight
  • Flight instructors to answer questions on how to get started
  • Exhibits of aircraft that are available right now
  • Representatives from EAA and its local chapters, to talk about EAA membership

As an incentive to start flying, the EAA will issue sport pilot student certificates at the event, at no charge to EAA members. And although many of the activities planned during the tour are primarily aimed at individuals interested in learning to fly, there are activities specifically for pilots. For instance, the FAA will conduct safety seminars related to light-sport aviation giving credit for "Wings" safety seminar attendance.

Other tour highlights include sport pilot forums, education for flight instructors, plus light-sport aircraft manufacturer displays and demonstrations.
