83% Jet/SAF Blend Successfully Function Tested, with Promising Results
Gulfstream's continued development of its upcoming G700 has achieved a sustainability milestone, completing its first flight on a sustainable fuel blend featuring 83% renewably sourced JetA alternatives. The test plane completed a flight from its Savannah, Georgia home evaluating its performance on more environmentally friendly fuel options.
The exact source was undisclosed, but is assumed to have been provided by Gulfstream's contracted SAF provider, World Energy. Their sustainable fuel boasts a 60% smaller carbon footprint than conventional fuel. Testing the viability of SAF with the G700 represents the latest in hundreds of SAF-JET A blend flights conducted with company aircraft, reducing carbon dioxide emissions by thousands of tons. Gulfstream has pursued a sustainability strategy that is hoped to see the company best industry goals ahead of time. Across aviation, stakeholders have agreed on an overall carbon reduction by 50%, and efforts that should see 2050 emission levels roughly equivalent to their 2005 amounts. The company has seen a 2 percent improvement in fuel-efficiency year over year since 2010, with completely carbon-neutral growth since 2020. The G700 is expected to begin customer deliveries by the end of 2022.
“Getting this amazing aircraft in front of customers has been one of the highlights of 2021,” said Mark Burns, president of Gulfstream. “We are also further demonstrating our commitment to SAF by using the fuel blend as much as possible on G700 test flights — five out of six test aircraft have used the fuel blend on every flight. We look forward to building on these successes in 2022 and accomplishing even more program milestones as we move closer to customer deliveries.”
