Pilot Safe After Ejecting Over North Arabian Sea

Super Hornet Goes Into The Drink

A pilot assigned to Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 9 aboard the USS John C. Stennis (CVN 74) was rescued shortly after ejecting Tuesday afternoon from an F/A-18C Super Hornet over the North Arabian Sea.

US Navy officials tell ANN the pilot ejected from the aircraft, assigned to Marine Fighter Attack Squadron (VMFA) 323, at approximately 1519 pm local time. The search and rescue (SAR) helicopter recovered the pilot within 20 minutes, and transported the pilot to the John C. Stennis where a further medical evaluation will be conducted.

The unidentified service member is listed in good condition.

The John C. Stennis Carrier Strike Group is currently supporting Operation Enduring Freedom as well as conducting Maritime Security Operations in the US 5th Fleet area of operations.

The cause of the incident is currently under investigation.
