'Aviation Ambassadors' Program Returns For Pilots Flying In Virginia

Department of Aviation Receives Grant To Continue Popular Program

A promising program to reward pilots flying throughout the state of Virginia has received a second chance, thanks to a $10,000 grant from the Virginia Aeronautical Historical Society and its partners.

As ANN reported in February, the Virginia Department of Aviation was forced to suspend its "Aviation Ambassadors" Program after running out of funds to continue awarding prizes.

The highly successful program was established in 2005 to encourage pilots and the general public to visit Virginia’s 66 public use airports, attend pilot safety seminars, and visit aviation related museums. At each location or event, participants receive a stamp in an Aviation Passport, which they could then redeem for prizes, such as aviator jackets.

The grant was made possible by the Virginia Aeronautical Historical Society, and partners Heart of Virginia Aviation and Tecnam Aircraft.
