ANA: Dreamliner Windows Don't Get Dark Enough

Has Asked Boeing To Devise A Way To Make The Cabin Darker

While those high-tech electronically-dimmable windows in Boeing's Dreamliner may be very cool, they're apparently not dark enough for the 787's launch customer ANA. Reuters reports that the airline wants Boeing to find a way to make the passenger cabin darker during long-haul flights.

ANA spokesperson Ryosei Nomura told the news service that a darker cabin is necessary for passengers to be able to have "good sleep." As an interim step, ANA is reportedly considering adding pull-down shades to the airplanes that have already been delivered while Boeing looks at ways to make the windows darker on future Dreamliners.

ANA has 55 of the composite airplanes on order. Boeing did not comment on the request, or say whether other carriers had expressed similar concerns.

According to a report in USA Today, ANA told Reuters that other than the windows, it is happy with the Dreamliners that are flying in its livery.
