Jeppesen Teams With GosNIIAS Research Institute Of Russia

Will Evaluate Prototype Integrated Navigation Solution To Be Tested With MC-21 Aircraft And IMA Avionics

Jeppesen has signed a five year agreement with GosNIIAS, the leading research center of the Russian aviation industry. Through the agreement, GosNIIAS will test and evaluate integration of a comprehensive, prototype Jeppesen navigation information solution with Irkut Corporation MC-21 passenger aircraft and related GosNIIAS integrated modular avionics (IMA).

The Jeppesen navigation solution incorporates Jeppesen data, terminal and enroute charting, airport moving map and FliteDeck Pro electronic flight bag (EFB) services with centralized data management capabilities. The integrated Jeppesen prototype is being designed for true front panel avionics connectivity and display of traditional EFB capabilities in a commercial aviation flight deck environment.

“Teaming with GosNIIAS will help us demonstrate our vision for providing navigation data and EFB information through front panel IMA avionics and Irkut MC-21 aircraft,” said Thomas Wede, Jeppesen president. “Our agreement with such an esteemed research institute highlights a mutual commitment to deliver NextGen-based flight deck functionality to maximize operational efficiency and optimize access to critical data.”

The Jeppesen application will be integrated in a test environment with the GosNIIAS IMA avionics platform, which is planned for use with Irkut MC-21 aircraft, expected for entry into air service in 2017, and future aircraft types. The GosNIIAS institute works in close coordination with the United Aircraft Corporation of Russia, which enhances the scientific and production capabilities of the Russian aircraft industry.

“Our relationships with Jeppesen, the Irkut Corporation, the United Aircraft Corporation and other leading organizations will allow us to evaluate critical flight information solutions that will guide the way for airline operations in the future,” said Zheltov Sergey Y., General Director, GosNIIAS. “Front panel avionics with connectivity and display of EFB capabilities is an exciting new development that we are pleased to coordinate with Jeppesen to test and evaluate.”

The Jeppesen and GosNIIAS test and evaluation program are being highlighted at the 2013 MAKS air show in Moscow.
