Aero-TV: Judge Me Please -- The Art of Aircraft Judging

Measuring Up At Arlington 2009

There is a reason that ANN dubbed the annual Arlington Fly-In the Friendly Fly-In -- no other event produces as positive a vibe as Arlington and does it with such consummate professionalism... and yeah, its chock full of aviation goodness, to boot.

ANN sent two of our best folks to Arlington this year, to enjoy and document the sites, sounds, stories and personalities of Arlington 2009. ANN E-Media producer Paul Plack and Videographer Nathan Cremisino wore out a lot of shoe leather but came back with big grins on their faces and a sincere appreciation for a Fly-In that "is run awfully well."

One of the major aspects of a Fly-In, especially one that has been part of the EAA Chapter landscape for decades, is the allure of aircraft judging... that of bringing your pride and joy, whether it be antique, classic, homebuiilt, warbird, LSA, or other type of aircraft and seeing if its as well-cared-for as you think it is.

An event like Arlington has an extensive judging staff, folks who have devoted many years of their lives to all things aviation and who have developed the peer respect to be accorded the honor and responsibility of evaluating other pilot/owner's "Pride and Joys."

There is a lot of effort to the process, accompanied by an exceptional of professionalism -- and over the years, a pretty expert system has been established to verify that you're being judged by folks who know what they're talking about -- and who respect what you've done with your treasured aircraft. Here's a look at how this all worked at Arlington 2009.
