Aeroflot Cancels Eight Airbus A350-800 Orders

Still Has 14 Of The -900 Variant On The Books

Aeroflot has cancelled an order for eight A350-800 airliners, but kept 14 A350-900s on the books, according to the planemaker.

Air Transport World reports that Aeroflot ordered the 22 A350s back in 2007. But with orders declining for the shorter variant of the airliner, Airbus has dropped it from its lineup.

Airbus COO Fabrice Brégier told the Russian newspaper Kommersant that Aeroflot and the planemaker are in negotiations to convert the orders for the -800 into another aircraft, most likely the A330neo.

Aeroflot also cancelled an order for 22 Boeing Dreamliners in November of last year, shifting the purchase rights for those aircraft to Avia Capital Service ... a leasing arm of Rostec, an industrial conglomerate owned by the Russian Government. That deal was approved by the airline, Avia, and Boeing.

Aeroflot said at the time that it would use the A350 and the Boeing 777 for its routes requiring a widebody aircraft.
