Company's APUs Installed In A320s For Over 70 Airlines
Saudi Arabian Airlines has selected
Hamilton Sundstrand to install its APS 3200 Auxiliary Power Unit
(APU) on the airline's new fleet of 50 Airbus A320 series
aircraft.
"We are very pleased to begin a new partnership with Saudi
Arabian Airlines," said Dave Gitlin, Hamilton Sundstrand Power
Systems vice president and general manager. "Saudi Arabian Airlines
is a very important customer in the Middle Eastern region. We are
tremendously grateful to have the opportunity to support this
airline's growth with the APS 3200, which has proven its extensive
A320 operational experience, low life-cycle costs, emissions and
fuel consumption. In this partnership, Saudi Arabian Airlines will
also have the opportunity to expand its MRO capability to repair
and test the APS 3200 at the airline's own facilities."
According to Ali Milaat, vice president of Saudi Arabian
Airlines Technical Services Division, "We are pleased to further
expand our relationship with Hamilton Sundstrand by selecting the
APS 3200, with its 15 million hours of service experience, as our
APU of choice for our fleet as it grows to include 50 A320
aircraft. We judged the APS 3200 to be the best choice for our
operation and for its fit into our long-term strategic plan."
The APS 3200 APU is designed and produced at the Hamilton
Sundstrand Power Systems facility in San Diego.
Saudi Arabian Airlines, established in 1945 as the national
carrier of Saudi Arabia, is based in Jeddah. In 2007, Saudi Arabian
Airlines operated more than 127,600 revenue flights to 90
destinations domestically and internationally, transporting
approximately 17 million passengers. Saudi Arabian Airlines' fleet
consists of 91 widebody, single aisle and freighter aircraft.
Hamilton Sundstrand has delivered more than 1,500 APS 3200 APUs
to more than 70 airlines for their fleets of Airbus A320 aircraft.
Other Hamilton Sundstrand systems on A320 aircraft include the
Electric Power Generating System and the Ram Air Turbine. Saudi
Arabian Airlines also operates other aircraft that use Hamilton
Sundstrand APUs.
