While at EAA AirVenture 2016, ANN news editor, Tom Patton, talked with Christopher Bowers, who works in sales with the Waco Aircraft Company. The conversation centered on their Great Lakes airplane which provides the open cockpit feeling of the golden age of aviation. But wait, this Great Lakes airplane has an enclosed canopy - what’s going on?
Bowers explains that the canopy was designed for the Great Lakes to provide greater flexibility as to its operation. Obviously, it allows continued operation in colder climates, and it also improves performance. The canopy is yet to be FAA approved, but that approval is expected within a few months.
During the interview, we also find out that their traditional Waco now offers another propeller choice. This new propeller can be installed on current factory-built aircraft or retrofitted to earlier Waco’s.
Waco Aircraft is the new company building new airplanes with the old-time flavor. They keep the golden age of aviation alive.
