Connecticut Takes Step Towards New Airport Authority

State Senate Passes Legislation, Still Pending In House

The Connecticut State Senate has passed a bill to create a new quasi-public airport authority to oversee Bradley International, as well as the state's GA airports.

CT Governor Dannel Malloy

The bill passed the state's upper chamber Saturday on a unanimous vote. The Associated Press reports that the bill would transfer control of the state's airports from the state DOT to the new authority.

Airport oversight is currently the purview of the state DOT as well as various independent boards. Connecticut Governor Dannel Malloy says the new independent authority will allow the state's airports to more quickly react to industry changes.

The bill will next be considered by the Connecticut House of Representatives. However, that chamber will have to work quickly to pass the bill. The legislative session in Connecticut ends June 8th.
