Detroit Home Hit By Ice Likely Falling From An Airplane

FAA Is Investigating The Incident Which Left A Hole In The Roof

Gerald Young says his house near Detroit was hit by ice falling from an airplane flying overhead Sunday, leaving what was described as a gaping hole in his roof.

Young's neighbors told Detroit television station WXYZ that they heard what sounded like a missile impacting the home about 1800 Sunday. They said a plane had just flown overhead.

Young called the FAA, who told him to take pictures of the hole and the ice. They will investigate the incident.

While no one was injured by the falling ice, one of the neighbors expressed concern that they were hosting an outdoor baby shower nearby.  Ron Grant told the station the ice could have easily come down in his yard.  "Anybody could have got hurt," he said. "You know, anything could have happened."
