Libyan Officers Fly Fighter Jets To Asylum

Said They Are Escaping Political Crackdown In That Country

Two Colonels in the Libyan Air Force have reportedly flown their fighters to Malta and asked for political asylum. They say the recent crackdown on anti-government protesters in Libya drove them to make their escape.

Libyan Mirage Jets YouTube Video

According to a report in The Blaze online, the Libyan Mirage jets have allegedly been seen on video posted on YouTube by the Times of Malta. The pilots were allowed to land after they had contacted officials on the ground and said they were seeking asylum.

The pilots reportedly were being questioned by Maltese immigration officials. Meanwhile, a report in Al Jazerra indicates that some military aircraft have fired on protesters in Libya. That report is unconfirmed.
