"This is a significant milestone for Spirit and we look forward to building on this partnership as we move to the next variant on the 737 the 737 MAX."

The 737 is Spirit's largest program. Spirit is currently delivering 42 737s per month to Boeing. It delivered the first Next-Generation 737 in 1998 and has delivered more than 8,000 737s in all, including the 737 Classic.

"Without the amazing efforts of our talented employees 5,000 deliveries would not have been possible," said David Coleal, executive vice president, Boeing Programs. "Our employees are customer focused and take great pride in delivering a high quality product. We look forward to continuing to deliver this great product for many years to come. "

Spirit employs about 16,000 people worldwide designing and building complex aerostructures for the world's most recognizable airplanes. Spirit builds the forward section of every Boeing Commercial airplane in production today as well as wing and propulsion components.
