USAF Races To Recruit Drone Pilots

The US Air Force And Drone Racing League To Accelerate Pilot Training

The United States Air Force (USAF) and the Drone Racing League (DRL) have apparently expanded their efforts to accelerate the recruiting and training of drone pilots, in the hopes of supplying new talent to the USAF.

For the past five seasons, the USAF has renewed its partnership with the DRL, capitalizing on the latter’s expertise in marketing and attracting talent for its annual first-person view (FPV) drone racing competitions, where drones equipped with cameras live-stream video feed, bringing the remote viewer into the action. The DRL has built a following through the use of its complex race courses in stadiums around the world as they compete in elimination heats. The DRL’s expertise in delivering immersive content and visually stunning races on sports networks around the world, particularly the top crashes, close finishes, and pilot reactions is sure to draw in the next generation of drone ‘top guns.’

"For the past 75 years, the spirit of innovation has driven the U.S. Air Force and enabled our Airmen to Fly, Fight and Win. As we celebrate our historic milestone, we are proud to expand our partnership with the Drone Racing League, a sport that shares our passion around technology, speed and precision, and inspires their young fans to aim high," said Lt. Col. Jason Wyche, chief of the national events branch at Air Force Recruiting Service.

As part of the recruiting effort, DRL Arcade mobile is staging a Military Appreciation Month Tournament, with prizes to the top 75 finishers, to commemorate the USAF’s 75th yeas as a military branch. LtCol Cathyrine “Lilo” Armandie, HQ Commander of USAF Recruiting will also be honored in its series #WOmenTakingOff

The USAF and DRL will work together for the upcoming DRL2022-2023 racing season to create new immersive content, including USAF Boneyard maps and skins in the DRL SIM league.  The DRL SIM league is billed as a true-to-life drone racing simulator, and is available on Playstation, Xbox, Steam, and Epic Games.
