EAA Strives For No 'Sloshkosh' Redux

Extensive Drainage Work Has Been Keeping Water Flowing

It has been raining in central Wisconsin ... kind of a lot here in the early part of the summer. But EAA officials say that the campgrounds and other areas are ready for the onslaught of visitors which will descend on Wittman Field in about three weeks.

EAA spokesman Kick Knapinski says that the organization has made a lot of changes to improve drainage at the airport and surrounding environs prior to this year's AirVenture. And with the iconic photograph from last year one showing a hand-lettered "No Wake" sign, the improvements should be noticed by campers and other visitors alike.

Knapinski said some of the work was as simple as cleaning out drainage areas filled with silt and sediment, and as soon as that was accomplished, the water began going where it was supposed to go. He told television station WBAY that the organization is doing all it can to prevent a repeat of last year, when large motorhomes were moved off the campground to nearby parking lots and other remote sites, and others just sloshed through the mud.

Of course, it wouldn't be Oshkosh without a little mud on your shoes ...
