Allegedly Connected To A Plan To Acquire Firearms For Government Officials
Robert Bray, the director of the Federal Air Marshal Service, has announced he is stepping down from the position effective in June. The move is reportedly tied to an investigation of at least one employee suspected of obtaining weapons for government officials' personal use.
Fox News cites "law enforcement and congressional sources" that say Bray's resignation is directly related to the investigation. Bray's home was reportedly raided in December in connection with the probe, a raid TSA denies happened.
The alleged plan came to light from information obtained from whistleblower accusations made against federal Air Marshal supervisor Danny Poulos. Poulos has been accused of working with his connections at gun manufacturer Sig Sauer, and using TSA's federal firearms license to acquire discounted or free guns which he provided to higher-ranking agency officials for their personal use. He had been authorized by FAMS to purchase weapons for the agency, but did not hold a personal federal firearms license.
Fox's sources say that the Department of Homeland Security inspector general is also involved, and suspects there may be connections in the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives as well.
TSA acknowledged that Bray had bought a gun from Poulos, but that he had done so in a way he thought was legal. TSA said Bray had "no knowledge" that anything about the transaction was questionable.
Bray reportedly filed a police report after the raid and reported that the weapon had been stolen. The police report was confirmed by the Fairfax County Police in Virginia.
