Alzheimer's Group Donates Drone To Montgomery County, AL Sheriff

Aircraft Carries Thermal Imaging Camera For Search And Rescue

The Montgomery County, AL Sheriff's Department has a new tool for search and rescue operations thanks to a donation from the Alzheimers and Autism Outreach Group. AOG has donated a drone equipped with thermal imaging technology to the department.

The aircraft is the second donated by AOG to a law enforcement agency. The first was a DJI Inspire drone donated to the Dallas County, AL Sheriff's Office last year. This second drone is also built on the DJI Inspire platform, according to a report from the Associated Press.

The mission of the organization is to help those suffering from conditions which can sometimes make it difficult for them to find their way back home. The drone is a great search tool, according to Montgomery County Sheriff Derrick Cunningham.

AOG hopes to eventually donate drones to more departments around the state. More and more law enforcement agencies nationwide are turning to drones as a fast and cost-effective way of conducting SAR operations. Fire departments also use the aircraft with thermal imaging technology to identify hotspots or inspect potentially hazardous materials before sending a person into a potentially dangerous situation.
