Bahamas Habitat Awarded Challenge Grant Of $50,000

Money For Construction Of Zion Children's Home In The Bahamas

Bahamas Habitat said Friday it has received a matching grant of $50,00 from The Father's Table Foundation of Sanford, Florida for construction of the Zion Children's Home for abandoned and abused children in The Bahamas. The funding will be used to build the foundations of two cottages on Current Island; one for girls and one for boys. This is the largest donation currently made to the Children's Home project and has allowed the group to begin construction for both residences.

The women of Current Island envisioned this project because of the limited number of foster homes and facilities in The Bahamas. They wanted to build a safe and loving home for children who needed healing and a community that cared for them. This generous donation for the Zion Children's Home came in the form of a challenge grant. Every dollar contributed to the project by March 1, 2011 will be matched by a second dollar from The Father's Table Foundation

Inspired by The Father's Table Foundation challenge grant, Bahamas Habitat and Bahamas Methodist Habitat have launched their 2010 Christmas at Camp Campaign.  Christmas at Camp is a 30-day focused fundraising campaign with the goal of raising $150,000 to benefit the Children's Home and services of both organizations. Participants called Ambassadors will contact constituents to request their financial support via email and phone. The campaign will culminate in an at Camp Symonette in December to celebrate the blessings and to acknowledge those involved in supporting the campaign.

Funds will be used to expand capacity of both organizations, support ongoing disaster relief in Haiti, build the children's home, and support  renovations, equipment, supplies and other community building operations. Donations will be made to Bahamas Habitat an IRS recognized 501 (c)(3) non-profit with receipts delivered to donors via email.

Pilots interested in becoming involved in flying missions with Bahamas Habitat in support of mission in the Bahamas and Haiti should sign up online to receive the Fly-In & Help Out Event information. This will also put them on the mission notice email list.
