FAA Certifies HeliTrak’s Collective Pull Down

Device Senses Low Rotor RPM And Automatically Lowers Collective

The FAA has issued an AML STC to HeliTrak for its Collective Pull Down (CPD) line of products.

The company said in a news release that the FAA certification supports its vision for developing innovative safety products like the CPD which senses low rotor RPM and automatically lowers the collective. The CPD’s response allows the pilot time to recognize the low RPM situation.

The pilot’s recognition time in the event of low rotor RPM is a concern with all models of helicopters. Pilots will immediately understand the safety value of this new product as it makes its debut in rotorcraft like the Robinson R22, which is widely used for training. “A primary design goal for the CPD was to improve the probability of a successful outcome in the event of a sudden loss of rotor RPM”, said Chris Nehls, President of HeliTrak.

The CPD is the company’s first safety product to reach the market. The CPD is lightweight (1.9 lbs.), is easily installed and is also adaptable to other rotorcraft.
