Field Aviation Awarded ADS-B Out And FMS Upgrade Contract From Widerøe

Dash 8 Series 100/200/300 & Q400 Fleet To Comply With ADS-B Out Mandate

Field Aviation is providing a turnkey kit solution to add ADS-B Out capability and upgrade the FMS on the entire fleet of 41 Dash 8 aircraft at Widerøe’s Flyveselskap AS (Widerøe) of Norway, to comply with the upcoming ADS-B Out mandate and to provide further fleet standardization. The FMS upgrade will consist of the latest Universal Avionics (UASC) FMS hardware and 1002 software.

The upgrades to the Dash 8 Series 100 aircraft include the integration of dual UASC UNS-1Fw FMSs with their existing UASC GLS-1250 Special Category 1 (SCAT-1) Local Area Augmentation System (LAAS), a previously installed Field Aviation STC. Paired with these upgrades are dual Rockwell Collins TDR-94D ADS-B transponders and dual Honeywell AZ-810 Air Data Computer (ADC) upgrades, the latter of which match Widerøe’s Dash 8 Series 200 aircraft. As such, the Dash 8 Series 200 aircraft will only receive the new FMSs and dual transponder installations.

Widerøe's Dash 8 Series 300 aircraft dual UASC SBAS FMSs will receive software upgrades and the dual transponder change.

Widerøe's Dash 8 Q400 fleet will receive the integration of dual UASC UNS-1Ew FMSs, as well as Aviation Communication & Surveillance Systems (ACSS) NXT-700 ADS-B transponders. The Q400 ADS-B Out STC and integration kits will be provided to Field Aviation by Canard Aerospace, which Field will then combine with the LRUs to provide Widerøe with a comprehensive solution.

Kits for all aircraft will be delivered from Field Aviation’s Toronto facility over a 2 year period and will be synchronized with Widerøe's heavy maintenance schedule.

“Field Aviation and Widerøe have a long history of working together on our Dash 8 fleet. Field Aviation’s experience on the Dash 8 is unparalleled and Widerøe continues to benefit from their innovative, safe and reliable STCs and upgrades,” said Sture Pedersen, Widerøe’s director of technical operations.

“We very much appreciate this opportunity”, stated Field Aviation’s vice president of business development, Rob Baseggio. “It allows us to once again demonstrate our ability to produce more high quality Dash 8 solutions," he continued.
