Textron has announced it will idle 7,000 workers for a month due to the Coronavirus pandemic. Most of the layoffs will come from the company's factory in Wichita. Textron said that the company "has been taking increased action with such measures as limiting large group meetings, increasing daily cleaning of its facilities, restricting travel, and canceling our participation in several global meetings and events,” said a statement from the company. “Today we announced we are implementing a four-week furlough for most of our U.S. based employees, to be taken during the Monday, March 23 through Friday, May 29 timeframe. The FAA has closed the control tower at Midway Airport (KMDW) in Chicago after several technicians tested positive for Coronavirus. The airport is open using a backup tower, but the rate of arrivals and departures has been reduced. “The air traffic control tower at Midway Airport is temporarily closing while we ensure a safe work environment for air traffic controllers and technicians,” the FAA said in a statement. One of the men who had been what has been described as "the most isolated human being" ... command module pilot during an Apollo moon mission ... has gone west. Alfred "Al" Worden passed away Monday at the age of 88. “NASA sends its condolences to the family and loved ones of Apollo astronaut Al Worden, an astronaut whose achievements in space and on Earth will not be forgotten," NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine said in a statement. A Colonel in the U.S. Air Force, Worden was a test pilot and instructor before joining NASA as an astronaut in 1966. He flew to the Moon as command module pilot aboard Apollo 15. All this -- and MORE in today's episode of Airborne!!!
