Aspen Avionics Receives FAA Certification For Integrated AOA Indicator

Just Four Months From Introduction To Certification

Aspen Avionics announced today its integrated Evolution Angle of Attack (AOA) indicator has received Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certification. Unlike other AOAs, Aspen’s patent-pending solution seamlessly integrates AOA technology directly into its Evolution primary flight and multi-function displays through a software upgrade. The software is priced at $1,995. Deliveries begin immediately.

“We worked closely with the FAA to integrate Aspen’s AOA technology into our displays in a timely and efficient manner. The FAA’s focus on reducing loss of control accidents through increased focus on AOA and efficient certification processes played a large role in our ability to bring this to market,” said John Uczekaj, Aspen president and CEO.

Aspen’s Evolution AOA is a software-based derived angle of attack function and innovative display implementation which provides real-time stall margin awareness without hardware, cabling or external aircraft modifications or sensors. This unique approach to AOA indicators provides owners significant installation savings while also reducing aircraft downtime. The aircraft modification consists of a simple software upgrade to the Aspen primary and multi-function flight displays and requires a short calibration flight as part of the return to service.

Aspen's AOA provides real time flaps up and down stall margin awareness; enables the pilot to see the available lift before changing the configuration -- crucial when making a go-around. The Intuitive display provides an immediate, clear visual display of trend toward stall and stall margin. Pilot comprehends important information at a glance.

The AoA requires no additional probes, wiring or equipment. Installation cost and down time are minimal. The angle of attack information is displayed on the Aspen PFD or MFD in the pilot’s natural field of view.
