Mandatory Service Bulletin: Diamond

Addressing Exhaust System Issue

From Diamond Aircraft Industries:

MANDATORY SERVICE BULLETIN NO. MSB4O-033

Type Of Service Bulletin: Mandatory
Aircraft Affected:
DA 40: 40.006 - 40.0079, 40.081 - 40.083, 40.201 and subsequent models
Time of Compliance: within the next 15 hours and at every 50 hour inspection
Subject: Exhaust System
ATA-Code: 78-10, Exhaust
Reason: Cracks at the flanges of the exhaust system riser
Reference: DA 40 Airplane Maintenance Manual (AMM), Doc.No. 6.02.01
Measures: It is required to perform a thorough visual inspection of the exhaust system. The inspection should include inspection of all attachment hardware for security, inspection of all clamps for security, visual inspection of the entire exhaust system, with particular focus on the exhaust risers in the area below the flange that attaches the system to the cylinder. Use of a flashlight and magnifying glass is recommended. Check ears of each clamp half for a clearance of 0.10 - 0.13 inches. Defective components must be repaired or replaced before next flight.
Caution: the Terminate Action mentioned in the Service Bulletin No. MSB4O-007/3, item 1.8.2 is no longer valid. (Refer to Service Bulletin No. MSB 40-007/4)

Remarks:
  1. All measures must be carried out by the manufacturer, a certified aircraft service station or a certified aircraft maintenance mechanic.
  2. Accomplishment of the measures must be confirmed in the log book.
  3. In case of doubt, contact Diamond Aircraft.
