Aero-TV: Ahead Of Schedule - A Gulfstream G500/G600 Update

The Gulfstream 500 and 600 Test Fleet Is In the Air and the Test Program Is Running Smoothly…

If there was ever a place to find out about what’s going on in the world of the high-end BizJet industry, the place to be was the National Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition (NBAA-BACE) held in November 2016. And, that’s exactly where ANN News Editor, Tom Patton, had the opportunity to find out ‘what’s up’ with Gulfstream.

Tom met with Mark Burns, the President of Gulfstream Aerospace, and the question of, ‘What’s Up,’ could best be answered by discussing the Gulfstream 500 and 600 test programs. Burns says the flight test program is ahead of schedule. According to Burns, three Gulfstream 500s are now in the test program and he points out that, because of the commonality of the two aircraft, testing on the Gulfstream 600 will progress rapidly. Since the time that this interview was conducted the G600 achieved it’s first flight on December 17th 2016.

During Tom’s conversation, we also find out about changes in the company as it relates to legacy products like the Gulfstream 450. Burns says it was a bittersweet decision to finally conclude that the Gulfstream 450 needed to give way to the more advanced aircraft.

The conversation also leads into the issue of side-stick controllers being introduced in the Gulfstream 500 and 600 airplanes, and how that’s been accepted by pilots. This video provides some great background into a company that seems to know how to get the job done…right!
