ATA's Fuel Report: Costs Up in February

The Air Transport Association's report "...contains systemwide data filed by major, national, and large regional U.S. airlines with the U.S. Department of Transportation for scheduled and nonscheduled services. Expense figures do not include taxes, into-plane fees, or expenses associated with hedging programs. Data are preliminary and subject to restatement."

Now that you've been warned, note that the cost of airlines' fuel, which jumped 10.4% in January, rose another 5.6% in February, to an average of 90.2¢ per gallon. Compared to the year-earlier period, the accumulated increases in costs have driven jet fuel prices up some 44.6%.

Taxes and local fees, of course, are piled on top of the 'raw' prices; the ATA doesn't report on the tax/fee angle.
