Sebring Reginal Airport Takes Management Role For U.S. Sport Aviation Expo

Deal With Bob Wood Should Be Executed In August

Regional Airport Airport (SRA) has officially taken the reigns from Robert (Bob) Wood, seven year U.S. Sport Aviation Expo Chairman. Sebring’s Board of Directors gave staff the permission to draft the document for transfer of the EXPO to the SRA and the deal should be executed at the August Board meeting.

In 2003, Bob Wood conceived the idea of showcasing Light-Sport Aircraft at a first of its kind Expo. In cooperation with Sebring Regional Airport Executive Director, Mike Willingham, the inaugural event took place in 2004. This year will mark the eighth annual U.S. Sport Aviation Expo in Sebring, FL. Expo 2012 dates are January 19-22. The Sebring U.S. Sport Aviation Expo has become a must-go to event for aviation enthusiasts.

”We are thrilled to have the opportunity to help shape and grow this important trade show for the LSA (Light-Sport Aviation) market, the community and the airport,” Willingham said.

A native of Illinois, Robert Wood attended flight training while in college and received a Private Pilot’s Certificate. He served 28 plus years in the army including two tours in Vietnam, two in Korea and one in Berlin. In 1998, Bob moved to Sebring, built his own Velocity aircraft and convinced Sebring Regional Airport Director, Mike Willingham to join forces with him create the first LSA Trade Show.

Bob Wood continued to improve the Expo every year with more and more exhibitors and attendees. Continued Mike, “We have big plans to increase the number of exhibitors and attendees for this year which include more sponsorship opportunities, increased advertising, new entertainment and more.”  EXPO has grown to over 200 area volunteers orchestrating the event for over 10,000 attendees.
