Aero-TV: Avidyne's Synthetic Vision -- Taking R9 To The Next Level

GA's Most Revolutionary Glass Cockpit Is About To Go 'Synthetic'

After taking the GA world by storm, the highly capable and oh-so-usable Avidyne Release 9 glass panel system is poised to take its next big leap... not as fast as some others have done, but still built upon a system lauded worldwide for its ease of use and single-pilot friendliness.

Entegra Release 9 features large-format, ultra- reliable LED-backlit displays — the first to be truly interchangeable for use as PFD or MFD. Since each Integrated Flight Display (IFD) is fully capable of performing the functions of the other, no unfamiliar or limited reversionary modes are required.

The fully-integrated, all-digital WAAS Gamma 3 COM/NAV/Surveillance (CNS) suite is managed with the intuitive FMS900w, while dual redundant databus interconnection automatically synchronizes data between displays, the FMS Keypad and a full complement of safety sensors.

As noted above, future developments include future software releases which will support new display formats including Synthetic Vision (SVS), Enhanced Vision (EVS), and Highway in the Sky (HITS). Avidyne’s Entegra SVS offers improvements over existing systems by depicting 3D terrain all the way out to the horizon, based on the aircraft’s altitude above the ground.

The Avidyne system also depicts obstacles, traffic and “Highway-in-the-Sky” (HITS) boxes on the PFD. SVS greatly enhances the utility of the airplane, improves the comfort level of passengers, and increases the safety of each flight. SVS holds immense promise for the future of release 9.... join Aero-Tv as we get a progress report as well as a look at the Avidyne crystal ball... synthetically.
