Pilot Killed During Performance At NM Air Show

ANN REALTIME REPORTING 10.04.06 2015 EDT: Aero-News has learned of a fatal crash Wednesday afternoon at the 14th Annual Tucumcari Rotary Club Air Show in New Mexico.

Police identified the victim as Dr. Guy Baldwin, a 60-year-old Tulsa, OK family doctor and Aviation Medical Examiner who performed in air shows flying for the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Oklahoma.

Details of the accident were not immediately available from the Tucumcari Police Department, other than Baldwin's plane, an Extra 300L, went down at approximately 1:30 pm MDT during a performance at the show.

Tucumcari Police Chief Larry Ham said Baldwin was performing a loop when he apparently lost control of the plane. Witnesses report the plane impacted the ground at a high rate of speed, and traveled approximately 200 feet before coming to rest.

The rest of the show, which started today, has been cancelled.

Baldwin (above right) was voted Oklahoma Aviator of the Year in 2003, and wrote for several aviation publications... including monthly columns dealing with aeromedical matters. It was Baldwin's first appearance at the eastern New Mexico airshow.

Aero-News will bring you more information on this tragic accident as details become available. For now... damn.
