Airbus Helicopters MH-65 Dolphin Featured On Stamp Commemorating U.S Coast Guard's 225th Anniversary
Airbus Group celebrated with thousands of employees and partners across the country with Tuesday's release of a U.S. Postal Service Forever stamp honoring the U.S. Coast Guard's 225th anniversary -- and featuring the Airbus Helicopters MH-65 Dolphin.
The Coast Guard has relied on the Dolphin for 30 years to protect the security of the nation, advance America's vital maritime interests and save thousands of lives. There are 102 Dolphins in the Coast Guard fleet based at 17 air stations on the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, Gulf of Mexico, Hawaii and the Great Lakes region.
"We're honored to support the mission of the men and women of the Coast Guard and are thrilled that the Dolphin helicopter is being recognized as part of this historic event," said Allan McArtor, Chairman and CEO of Airbus Group, Inc. "Every time I see an MH-65 flying patrol over our nation's capital, or read about another successful rescue, I get a renewed sense of pride in all the roles Airbus Group is privileged to play in our nation's security."
The Coast Guard put into service its first Dolphin helicopter in 1985 and has recorded 1.41 million flight hours since its maiden flight. The Coast Guard's most ubiquitous aircraft, the MH-65 is tailored for a full range of missions and is capable of performing in the most severe all-weather conditions and night-time operations.
The stamp was created in an oil painting on masonite by aviation artist William S. Phillips, and also depicts another icon of the Coast Guard: the three-masted sailing cutter Eagle, also known as "America's Tall Ship."
