Zunum Aero Lands Jetsuite As Launch Customer For Electric Airliner

Deliveries Expected To Begin In 2022

Zunum Aero has landed Jetsuite as the launch customer for its hybrid-electric 12-seat airliner, with deliveries expected to begin in 2022.

Fox News reports that the aircraft will be powered by two electric motors driven by batteries such as those found in current electric vehicles. Zunum Aerospace co-founder and chief aeronautic engineer Matt Knapp said in a interview that a supplemental internal combustion engine and electric generator will help the airplane have a range of about 700 miles.

Knapp said that a larger plane seating up to 50 passengers is on the drawing board that would have a range of up to 1,000 miles as battery technology improves.

Future plans call for aircraft that fly on battery power alone, single pilot operation and eventually remotely-piloted aircraft.
