429s To Be Equipped For EMS Use
Bell Helicopter announced Friday the sale of four 429 model
helos to California Shock Trauma Air Rescue (CALSTAR), a regional
non-profit helicopter ambulance service.
"Since the 429 was designed with input from our EMS customers,
it is especially gratifying to see a company the caliber of CALSTAR
recognize the potential of this aircraft and we look for a long and
satisfying relationship with them going forward," said Bob
Fitzpatrick, senior vice president for Marketing and Sales at
Bell.
Joe Cook, president and CEO of CALSTAR said, "We are very
excited about the additional capabilities the new Bell 429s will
bring to our operation. In addition, Bell's reputation for building
safe and reliable helicopters combined with their excellent record
of customer support, weighed heavily in our decision to purchase
the 429."
The 429, currently in flight test, will begin customer
deliveries late in 2008. Since its introduction into the
marketplace, the Bell 429 has attracted over 200 orders, according
to the company.
"CALSTAR has a very diverse operating environment that extends
from the coast up into the higher elevations of Central and
Northern California," said Mike Coulman, Bell's regional sales
manager. "Their new Bell 429's will provide them with scheduling
flexibility to operate reliably throughout the region."
Since CALSTAR commenced flight operations in August of 1984,
over 34,000 critically injured or ill patients have been
transported on an emergency basis to hospitals throughout Northern
California.
