Dreamliner Supplier Management Head Appointed New Boeing President In Japan

Current President Mike Denton Is Retiring In October

Boeing today announced that George Maffeo, vice president of 787 Supplier Management, Boeing Commercial Airplanes will succeed Boeing Japan president Mike Denton, who will retire from the company in October.

Shep Hill, president of Boeing International and senior vice president of Business Development and Strategy, said Denton would leave a legacy of achievement. “Mike’s time at the helm of Boeing Japan was marked by significant accomplishments,” Hill said. “With his background in engineering, technology and airplane programs, Mike successfully led certification of the 787 and delivery to launch customer ANA and Japan Airlines and enhanced collaboration with Boeing’s long-standing partners and customers throughout Japan.”

Maffeo is a 34-year veteran of Boeing. Before becoming vice president of Supplier Management for the 787 Program, he was vice president Supplier Management Airplane Programs, responsible for 737, 747, 767 and 777 Programs. He previously led the company’s Propulsion Organization, with responsibility for Engine Management and Propulsion Procurement. He held other senior procurement positions in the Puget Sound area, such as director of Standards, Systems and Equipment – dealing with avionics flight and environmental systems, amongst others – and director of Customer Selected Equipment.

“George is no stranger to Japan, and his appointment comes at the right time,” Hill said. He is well known to all our partners, who produce 35 percent of the 787’s airframe structure. As we move into our seventh decade of doing business in Japan, the relationships we have in place are long term and based on mutual benefit and respect. George has the experience to lead Boeing in Japan as we continue to strengthen our relationships and expand our business.”

Denton was named president of Boeing Japan in January 2010. He previously led Boeing Commercial Airplanes Engineering, responsible for product development, engineering design, flight operations and safety activities for all commercial airplane models. Denton joined the company in 1977 and held a series of key positions – as chief project engineer for the 777 Program, deputy director for Product Strategy and Development and chief project engineer for the 737 classic models.
