ALPA's Prater Re-Elected to AFL-CIO Executive Council

Capt. John Prater, President of the Air Line Pilots Association, Int’l (ALPA), was re-elected as a vice president on the AFL-CIO Executive Council at the Federation’s convention held last week in Pittsburgh, Pa.

“It is a tremendous honor and deep privilege to participate in the AFL-CIO and to join my union colleagues in defending the interests of working families,” said Prater.

“ALPA joins with unions across this country in seeking economic justice in the workplace and pursuing legislation and regulations that protect the rights of working men and women to organize and bargain for contracts that enhance our members’ lives.”

The American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO) is a voluntary Federation of 57 national and international labor unions with more than 11.5 million members. Every four years, delegates elect the AFL-CIO officers—the president, secretary-treasurer, executive vice president and vice presidents.

These officers make up the AFL-CIO Executive Council, which guides the daily work of the Federation. Prater also serves on the Federation’s international, organizing, public policy, and legislative committees.

Founded in 1931, ALPA is the world’s largest pilots union, representing nearly 53,500 pilots at 36 airlines in the United States and Canada.
