FAA Certification Delayed For Hawker 4000

Program Held Up For Lightning Protection Installation

Raytheon Aircraft announced Monday final FAA certification for its new Hawker 4000 (nee Horizon) twin-engine business jet will be delayed until early February, while the company installs a lightning protection system on the test aircraft being used for final function and reliability testing.

"The other test aircraft already had the system, so we decided we should install it on the other one," says Raytheon spokesman Mike Turner to the Wichita Business Journal.

The certification program, which Raytheon had hoped to complete by the end of last year, is now in its final phase -- but will be held up while Raytheon installs the system so the plane can complete a flight through rain as part of the cert process.

"We want to do all the right things and do it all the right way," Turner added.

As was reported in Aero-News, fractional-operator NetJets ordered 50 of the composite bizjets last month, for delivery between 2007 and 2013.
