Reliability And Safety Concerns Drive Decision
Sky Connect’s Iridium-based
voice and tracking communications system has been selected by Air
Methods, provider of emergency air medical transportation and
medical services, to be installed on certain aircraft in the
company’s fleet.
Sky Connect tells ANN the company's Tracker system (shown below)
enables helicopter dispatch centers to follow aircraft progress in
real time. The system sends secure position, altitude, airspeed and
heading data plus other operational status reports selected by the
crew.
The system selected by Air Methods includes an 11-position
dialer that reduces cockpit workload by enabling the crew to select
pre-set numbers for faster direct voice communications. The system
also permits the use of night-vision goggles for safer operations
at night.
Air Methods provides air medical services to hospitals and
communities in 42 states.
"We are delighted that Air Methods has chosen to partner with
Sky Connect. The reliability and robust nature of the 66-satellite
Iridium network assures operators of receiving aircraft status
reports at all times," said Wiley Loughran, senior vice president
of sales and marketing for Sky Connect. "Because air ambulance
operators frequently fly in highly remote locations, continual
automatic tracking and voice communications is essential for the
safety of the aircraft and its occupants."
Sky Connect offers a range of satellite-based tracking, text
messaging, and telephone systems for airborne, ground-based, and
marine applications in both the commercial and government markets.
Sky Connect provides automated flight tracking with true worldwide
coverage. Aircraft phone systems support headset interfaces plus
corded or cordless handsets. Sky Connect uses the Iridium satellite
network for complete Earth coverage and mission effectiveness.
